FEV offers leading services in the areas of battery cell and system development. With the help of a comprehensive benchmarking program for battery cells, FEV has gained a clear advantage in the evaluation of battery cells and systems. We are looking for a master's student to write their thesis on the topic of “Benchmarking of Battery Cells”.

• You will characterize battery cells in terms of cell design, electrical performance, and safety behavior
• You will open battery cells and examine their components
• Your tasks will also include sample preparation and test organization for the physicochemical analysis of cell materials
• You will evaluate and process cell test data and prepare comparative and benchmark analyses

• FEV provides leading services for battery system and cell testing, both electrical and safety testing. As such, this is giving FEV a distinctive edge in in performance comparison, benchmarking and evaluation of battery cells and systems. For this field, we are looking for a master or bachelor thesis student with focus on battery cell testing data analysis
• You will identify comparable cell test data in terms of type, scope, and quality at FEV Europe GmbH and other subsidiaries.

Our in-house, MATLAB-based software solution BATT.code already supports rapid design and evaluation of automotive batteries. Now we want to take the next step and extend the tool so that stationary storage systems—from home batteries to 40-foot containers—can be designed and analyzed with just a few clicks. Thats where you come in!

• You research the specific features that distinguish stationary storage systems from vehicle batteries (arrangement of packs, installation in racks or containers, power electronics, standards, safety)
• You compare the existing tool with missing functions
• You assist with the introduction of a new system level, “BESS,” including classes such as inverters, container cooling, and pack-to-pack busbars
• You expand the calculations to include typical stationary key figures (continuous power, energy density, cooling requirements)
• You integrate new modules into the existing software architecture, including plausibility checks and default values according to relevant standards
• You test extensions on sample projects and compare them with current storage solutions
