Auburn Hills, Michigan, December 2023 — FEV, a leading global engineering service provider in the mobility industry, and Streetscope, a supplier of innovative tools used to evaluate the safe movement of vehicles, have entered into a partnership, employing industry-exclusive quantitative measures to dramatically enhance ADAS/AD development.

As work to improve the fidelity of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Automated Driving (AD) continues throughout the transportation industry, a widespread problem persists, the lack of a consensus approach to determine effectiveness of safety measures in autonomous vehicles. In this absence, engineers are often forced to rely on a blend of existing standards and best practices to develop and test. Through the collaboration of FEV’s intelligent mobility division, FEV.io, and pioneering tool developer, Streetscope, development costs will be reduced, and processes are made more efficient and faster.

“Together, we are offering a tool and methodology that can provide an alternative,” said Tom Tasky, VP of Intelligent Mobility and Software at FEV.io, “enabling the use of quantitative measures to improve design, enhance safety, and accelerate the development and deployment of autonomous vehicles and advanced driver assistance systems.”

Specifically, FEV will innovate autonomous vehicle technologies by incorporating the Streetscope Hazard Measure (SHM) proprietary measurement of collision hazards, into the life cycle of mobility development. The unique software platform can process data from AV sensors such as cameras, lidar and more, to analyze all varieties of driving situations and objectively characterize potential hazards within the field of view. It then calculates a “Hazard Measure” based on kinematic relationships between elements present in the scenario, resulting in a quantifiable metric that correlates with collision risk.

“The SHM can be used to validate system requirements and design approaches earlier in the development lifecycle,” commented Streetscope CEO, Mark Goodstein, “as well as to provide an ongoing, predictive measure not dependent on crash data or incident reporting. Together with FEV’s expertise in vehicle development and systems engineering, we think it’s truly a game changer.”

FEV will feature the technology from booth #5577 at the upcoming CES trade show in Las Vegas, January 9-12, 2024. Attendees are encouraged to visit for a more in-depth look at the technology in action.
