About the project

Metal, graphite or compound – the ideal bipolar plate for PEM fuel cells does not yet exist. Depending on the area of application, each material offers specific advantages such as high conductivity and corrosion resistance, but poses challenges such as limited service life or high production costs. The project idea aims to combine a metallic carrier film with high mechanical strength with a corrosion-resistant compound film. The aim is to produce long-term stable and cost-effective bipolar plates. The project partners are investigating various process strategies in order to establish cost-efficient and scalable production for fuel cells in heavy-duty applications.
