Mr. Christof Schernus of FEV Honored With SAE International Forest R. McFarland Award
WARRENDALE, Pa. (May 23, 2013) – Christof Schernus, Manager for Gasoline Engine Innovation and Research, FEV GmbH, has been honored with SAE International’s Forest R. McFarland Award.
Established in 1979, this award recognizes individuals for their outstanding contributions toward the work of the SAE Engineering Meetings Board (EMB) in the planning, development and dissemination of technical information through technical meetings, conferences and professional development programs or outstanding contributions to the EMB operations in facilitating or enhancing the interchanges of technical information.
The award is administered by the EMB and honors the late Forest R. McFarland, who was himself an outstanding session organizer, a chairman of the Passenger Car Activity and a member of the EMB. Funding for this award is through a bequest by Mr. McFarland to SAE.
Mr. Schernus has been working on developing simulation models, and introducing new applications and model based analysis methods for experimental data. He took the responsibility for the Fundamentals and Technology Department in 2008 and has been the Manager for Innovation and Research in the Gasoline Business Unit of FEV GmbH since 2012, which features teams for computational fluid dynamics and optical measurement technology, engine performance simulation and turbocharger development, and a flow laboratory. Throughout his professional career, Mr. Schernus has been employed at the Institute for Applied Thermodynamics, and at FEV, fulfilling positions as Project Engineer, Senior Engineer for Engine Performance Simulations, and Senior Technical Specialist, which led him to assume his current position at FEV GmbH.
Since 2005, Mr. Schernus has been involved in the organization of the SAE World Congress as chairperson and organizer of the session, Modeling of SI and Diesel Engines. He is an author and co-author of more than 50 papers and conference presentations and holds one patent on catalyst ageing technology.
