The time and cost pressures placed on the modern product engineering and development market demands rapid analysis, advanced development capabilities and high levels of precision. Where mechanical items were traditionally verified through empirical testing, today analytical tools such as FEA, MBS, EHD or CFD are in commonly used. Modern mechanical development strategies are characterized by an intensive model-based optimization of a virtual prototype followed by validation testing on physically high-level prototypes. Only by this approach can today's engines be brought closer and closer to the mechanical limits. To further improve the established CAE methods, we created the "FEV Test Catalog". Based on our vast project experience, we collected a comprehensive database of test procedures, process guidance and benchmark data to achieve effective and goal-oriented mechanical development. This test catalog has been successfully applied to numerous high quality mass production developments.
